“When you were away, you really longed to go back to Bergen again, to walk around the church in the heart of the village. The church is the symbol of home. After the war we drew our own postcards with the church and other places in Bergen. We sent them to our boys in the Indies. Or we sold them and sent the money to the Indies.”

Na de oorlog tekenden we onze eigen kaarten met de kerk en met andere plekken van Bergen. Die stuurden we dan naar onze jongens in Indië. Of we verkochten ze, en stuurden het geld naar Indië.”
